Top tips to help you, and those vulnerable to the cold, stay warm and well

With a cold few days forecast in Southampton, it is important to keep warm both inside and outdoors.

Cold weather can affect your health. When the temperature drops, some people are at increased risk of heart attack, stroke, flu, pneumonia, falls and injuries and hypothermia. Cold weather can also affect people with mental health conditions, such as depression and dementia.

It is also important to look out for neighbours, friends and family who may be more vulnerable to the cold and check they have warm food and drinks available and are managing to heat their homes. Find out more.

We're supporting Cervical Cancer Prevention Week

Cervical cancer can be prevented. This week (21 - 27 January 2019) we’re supporting Cervical Cancer Prevention Week and raising awareness of the importance of attending your cervical screening when invited (also known as the smear test).

Cervical screening only takes around five minutes, but it could be the most important appointment you make this year. Smear tests prevent 75% of cervical cancers and regular cervical screening is the best way to identify abnormal changes in the cells of the cervix at an early stage. Find out more

There’s still time to have your flu jab this winter

If you haven’t had your flu jab yet, there is still time. Having the flu jab is a really important way of helping you, and those around you, stay well this winter.  

The injected flu vaccine is offered free of charge on the NHS to people who are at risk. This is to help protect them against catching flu and developing serious complications. Find out more about who should have the flu jab
